For most of my adult life poverty was a choice I didn’t know I was making. If you had asked me I would have said I was choosing to go to art school because I thought being an artist was the best way for me to contribute to society. I would have told you I decided to go into human services because that was the best way to use my talents. I would have told you I married my now ex-husband because I loved him. All these things may have been true but with each dissension I was also choosing to be poor. I would not go back and change any of these choices. I believe in what I have done and who I am. I am still poor but I now live that reality as a choice not a referendum on my worthiness. In this age where many are finding themselves joining the ranks of the poor I hope to be able to share with you may experiences so that we may all find grace in our lives no matter the circumstances.
